William Louis Leicester was born in Carlton, Victoria to Amelia Lester (Leicester). The father's details are not recorded, however on 13 September 1889 Amelia (also known as Annie) married William Henry Leenew. According to the marriage certificate William was born to Sping Keong (father) and Chun (mother) both of 'Canton' around 1851. The register of marriage indicates that William was a widower with two children. William and Amelia has an additional three children: Enid Alfreda Leenew (b.22 March 1897-d.9 March 1993), Eileen May Leenew (b.1899-?) and Amy Clara Leenew (b.5 April 1904-?). William Louise is believed to have been a furniture maker and also worked as a cook in Perth.
