According to Thelma Wing Jan's birth certificate John Wing Jan was born in China c1872 and was a cabinet maker by occupation. He married Sarah Ann Ching Way on 26 October 1914. According to family information he was a widower when he married Sarah Chung Way and already had two children in China from his previous marriage. He is believed to have come to Australia around 1890 with Yuen Mew Ping Chong.
