Interpretive description

The card mounts of both prints of this photograph are different. Although they both credit Yeomans as the photographer the address information differs slightly suggesting the prints were created at different times by Yeomans' photographic studio. It is not certain what the significance of the annotations on the back of the Millard copy of this photograph mean. The date refers to the date the Tong family left for China. The photograph held by the National Archives of Australia in Series B13/0 was used by immigration officials to identify Australian-born Alice and Ethel Tong on their return to Australia from China in 1916.
