Description

Chang and the woman in this image (possibly his wife) both wear traditional Chinese dress. Chang wears a dragon robe. The European man wears a suit.

Interpretive description

Warwick Reeder suggests that although this photograph is credited to the Paterson Bros that infact it was taken earlier than this after a photograph by Jas. Russell & Sons, London. (Reeder, 1995, fig.75, p.62). If the woman in this photograph is Chang's wife then the photograph was taken before 1871. King Fow is believed to have passed away some time before 1871 when Chung met and married his second wife while in Australia.
